Holistic aging is a comprehensive way to approaching the aging process and the I for Intoxicated keeps my body hydrated with the Holy Spirit.

Intoxicated with the Spirit

Finally, after fifty years, I am learning what it is to be truly intoxicated and not with alcohol. Two months after turning fifty I had a rebirth and that is when I was filled with the Spirit. To age with grace I first need to be intoxicated with the Spirit, the Holy Spirit.

A New Way To Look At Being Intoxicated

Looking at the glass half full as we age.
Looking at the glass half empty and half full.

Life wasn’t working out as planned so I needed a new approach. Prior my life was half empty. All of my material needs and comforts were met, but I was lacking.

I need a new outlook on life. My mind had become corrupted by the broken world that surrounded me. Listening to the news media and being swayed by a divisive government, slowly I became poisoned. I didn’t have the proper coping skills to deal with my every day struggles.

My new approach looks at life being half full. I am to be intoxicated with the Holy Spirit. A foundation built on His word doesn’t allow for my ego.

The Benefits of Being Intoxicated with the Spirit

In addition to the lifetime of environmental toxins, for a good thirty years I had a constant trickle of alcohol and I started to drown in my sorrow. My body is in need of a good detox. Simply removing the excess alcohol isn’t going to do the trick.

Prior to recovery I was empty and I filled up on alcohol to cope, it left me with a bloated feeling. The result out of discomfort I acted out. My ego was on the defense and raging war against anyone who stood in my way.

Looking at my life half full prepares me for what life has in store. My cup isn’t to be filled to the rim, but overflowing. My cup runneth over kind of pour. Now that’s a generous pour! In Christ we can have overflowing love, joy, and peace.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

John 10:10 NLT

As a child of Christ we are each given everything we need, abundantly, to take on any life challenge. To truly be satisfied.

Intoxicated with Water As We Age

As you get older, you need to drink more water. Here’s why…

Researchers say that as people age, they need to drink more water to compensate for changes in their body temperature regulation.

They say dehydration can cause a number of ailments, including muscle pain, fatigue, and heat exhaustion.

They urge older adults to drink water even when they aren’t thirsty and to limit beverages such as soda, coffee, and alcohol, which can cause dehydration.

After the Holy Spirit, water is the purest substance for intoxication.
Intoxicated with Purity

For the first sixteen months of my recovery I did a total detox, cleansing my body of all alcohol. Since, I have had an occasional glass of wine, but shifted my focus on my coping skills. The alcohol is merely a symptom of my problems.

Water is my substitute for the alcoholic beverages, I once drank uncontrollably. My skin, hair, and body are a testament to the cleanse of my body, but the radiant light shining is from being intoxicated with the Holy Spirit.

If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.

2 Timothy 2:21 NLT
