Purpose without passion leads to death.

Something has to bring you down. What’s it going to be? Your purpose or passion?

The Purpose Seeker

A few years ago, following my spiritual death, I started to look for my purpose. I didn’t have to look very far. After I tapped into my passion of writing I found healing. Within that healing I discovered my purpose.

Three years later I am conflicted. I am still passionate about my writing, but my purpose has been shifting to publishing. I haven’t lost my passion yet, but some days I feel I am losing it through seeking my purpose.

How can purposeful living be the death of us?

Living Life Passionately

It is important to have purpose in life because it helps to guide our decision making. I remodeled a kitchen this summer and did so with purpose. As a casework designer, I design killer kitchens for a living. It is a talent I am passionate about. But the whole installation process went sideways and I lost my passion for the remodel.

I am surviving the kitchen remodel and it did not take years off of my life. The purpose of healing through my written words keep me from being rattled by mismanagement and a poor install. Instead I place the problems that are out of my control into perspective. I choose to be grateful and offer compassion, not fill with resentment and bitterness.

Life is short, so why would I let a remodel bring me down?

Death is inevitable, so how do you want to live?

A few weeks ago, I received a text none of us want to receive. A friend shared the news that her husband found a lump on his neck and he was diagnosed with cancer.

His painful journey had begun.

Then the following day I received the news that a family member’s Glioblastoma, brain cancer, has returned.

His painful journey is coming to an end.

Both men, retired from their professions and may die within a couple years of retirement. They were healthy men with much to live for. Stories like these put my life’s purpose in perspective.

Fulfilling My Purpose

In my new lifestyle that embraces recovery, I surround myself with the ongoing struggles of life. I look towards one sources, but have many other coping mechanisms to combat the daily grind we call life.

I found what works for me. Have you found what works for you?

A couple years ago with passion I put my story into words. It was purposely written including themes of growth, self-love, and self-awareness. It is a Christian-based book.

The last few months I have been discussing my book with different publishing companies and I found an imprint that specializes in self-help books. They are interested in partnering with me to publish self-help books.

The catch is although they would like to publish my book, Swallow Your Pride, a Writer’s Guide to Recovery they want to change the foundation of my book. They would like to lessen the focus on my one source, God, and pivot towards my secondary coping mechanisms. They believe this would broaden my audience.

I am eager to accept the constructive criticism and grow as a writer , but I do not want to change the original purpose behind my writing.

I am a faith-based writer and am passionate about healing through my words. My purpose it to help others find healing through the written words.

Reigniting the Passion Behind My Purpose

Last week and again this week I am taking a break from my weekly writing (this is a repurposed Substack post from two weeks ago). The reason for my hiatus is to reset my focus. My passion that ignites my flame is being snuffed out. My purpose is to encourage each of you to join me in a journey of healing through writing.

It’s easy to get discouraged when others thwart your plans, but with passion and perseverance our purpose will not be compromised.

We are each Gifted With A Purpose. It’s up to each of us to vigorously pursue that purpose. Healing by writing is what works for me and it is through Christ where I find my inspiration. I encourage each of you to discover your purpose and fuel your passion.

I know you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

Job 42:2 NIV

Love your new kitchen, Karen! And glad you won’t be selling out. Sure, you could get more readers but at what cost? “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” Matthew 16:26. This is something I’ve wrestled with in my own writing trajectory (which you’re well aware). And I don’t for one second regret sharing Jesus as I’ve always desired instead of pushing forward with an end goal of selling more books. Prayers for you as you continue to walk this one out!

Today I had a meeting with the publisher. They assured me that they have no intention to change my message just help with clarification. I got my work cut out for me but it reignites my passion!
You my friend are an inspiration. Thank you.

Oh good! That’s the best of both worlds. Keep going, Karen. 🙂 And thank you, friend!
